Haha, bet you thought THIS was never getting updated. Ugh, also I thought I could wrap it up in five, but looks like it's a six-parter after all. But I swear to God I'm going to finish it asap, if only so I can stop feeling so guilty about it.

Title: Sad Songs to Keep Me Awake, part 5
Fandom: Band of Jonas Brothers
Pairings: Joe Jonas/George Luz, Nick Jonas/Lewis Nixon
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 9,780 words (out of 39,500 total to-date)
Disclaimer: Obvs totally fictional. The Jonas Brothers have never gone to war of any type, not even a sexy one, as far as I am aware.
Summary: Pick a side, JoBros, we're at war.
WARNINGS: Underage (16 years old). Older dude/younger dude. (Also, for the whole fic, incest, though not in this part.)
Author's Note: Blah blah Lovebug video blah blah shenanigans blah blah dishonoring to our veterans. Aaaand I'm not lying when I say none of this happens without [info]miss_bennie and [info]irishmizzy, who are superheroes. For previous installments, use the tag.

I have moved! I am neither lost nor dead! It just turns out that moving is sort of time-consuming. I swear, I got to Kentucky and had to start taking my items out of boxes and it was like, Goddddddd, didn't I just put all this stuff INTO boxes? This is bullshit.

The move itself went okay. We broke the window in the front door, had my crankiest neighbor threaten to the call the cops on the window-fixing guy (who was like, "Oh yeah? I dare you" -- aww, Massholes), and as I was about to drive away from the apartment, our neighbor D. actually gave me a HUG GOODBYE. (This is our neighbor who, for the first year we lived there, [info]moireach and I thought was extremely angry and nosy, because she was constantly standing outside smoking and being snoopy and loud. Then she started talking to us, and it gradually became clear that she is not angry, but rather has some kind of mental disability? Which just goes to show you, don't be so judgmental, haha. She really is super loud, though. And super nosy. I will not really miss her talking on the phone outside at 1 am, I'll tell you that.) You know what's the awkward thing about your weird neighbor hugging you goodbye, though? When your stupid roommate is in Central America so you can't even text her about it. THANK GOD FOR TWITTER.

Kentucky has been kind of hilarious -- rockstar!bro and the band have been in and out a lot, my dad somehow decided we should have three Father's Day dinners, and my parents have conscripted me into their tennis army (they play, like, constantly, and now I'm on my mom's tennis team and going to her group lessons, idek -- it's super fun, though). And I've been spending a lot of time painting and redecorating, which is very fun but also very exhausting.

(My poor mother -- she helped me paint, which meant she had to listen to my "Summer Jams '09" playlist a lot, and which also meant she inadvertently attended a seminar entitled Theories On Jonas Family Relationships and Also Miley Cyrus, which made her very interested in Nick Jonas and Miley Cyrus's duet? I'm sorry, Mom. Also two days ago as we pulled into the Home Depot parking lot she said, "I have that 'Music's in control' song stuck in my head." And I said, "... did you hear it today?" and she said, "No!" Hahaha. Um, yeah, I'm also sorry about getting the Camp Rock soundtrack in your head days later, Mom.)

Anyway, I've been running around so much that I feel like I've barely even been online, which is weird. But this week I started watching reruns of The Bones on TNT, and spoiler alert )

Allllso I've been using tumblr sporadically, so if you've got one, tell me your handle!

Okay, it's Saturday night, and me and [info]moireach have each been packing all day because she moves on Monday and I move on Wednesday, and it is MISERABLE. We're getting punchy. She just walked into my room and said, "I was just in my room, looking through bags. And I was like, "Oh, a bag of makeup and trash. Makeup and trash. Makeup and trash. Oh, and a thumb drive." Why would I keep a thumb drive in a bag of makeup and trash?"

Here is a better question: why does she keep her makeup and trash together?

ANYWAY, NOW she just walked into my room where I am... not packing and handed me a piece of paper and said, "What were we DOING when we wrote this?" Here is what the paper says, in M's handwriting: clearly this dates from circa spring 2006, but wtf )

Other things I have found today: an envelope of stickers that say "This car is a poem"; a Dundie Award with "Liz Lemon Award" written on it; $5 Canadian; a VHS tape labeled "Adventures with Candy" in my dad's handwriting (pret-ty sure that's the Strangers with Candy movie); a hardcopy of Pack Up Your Bags!; and a note M wrote me while on the phone when she had just started dating her boyfriend, which reads "He just brought up fic. Help help red alert!"

Rating: PG
Word Count: 5901 words

Warnings: Too many crossovers, but most of us know each other from Office fandom so you should've seen this one coming.

Okay, this is super weird, but I just found on my hard drive an epilogue to that Pam/Ryan comedy of remarriage fic I wrote forever ago, and it actually doesn't suck that bad. I think I was planning on writing more of it before I got distracted, though I don't know where it was going, haha. But what the hell, in case anyone wants to read it, here is what I have.

Title: Life under the Observer Effect, Epilogue
Fandom: The Office (US)
Rating: R
Pairings: Pam/Ryan, Jim/Pam
Length: 2700 words in the epilogue (out of a total that is now apparently 21,300)
Summary: In science, the term "observer effect" refers to changes that the act of observing will make on the phenomenon being observed.
AN: Pam and Ryan in a comedy of remarriage. The whole fic is here.

I've been perpetually in a weird emo-ish mood lately, where I'm like a big bundle of twitchy feelings I don't know what to do with. Well, channeling them into writing fanfiction is all I really know to do with my feelings anymore, but unfortunately I can't do that all day long.

It's just rough -- I've been having to tell everyone I know here that I'm moving away, and it's a big bummer, and every time I see the 83 bus I get a little pang, weirdly enough, and even though I think the move is going to be really good in the long run, right now I'm sad. Also, it's rainy and I'm listening to sad songs all the time, and I am very susceptible to the pathetic fallacy.

Anyway, here are the three songs I have on repeat right now, two of which are sad and one of which is peppiness personified, so they don't go together at ALL but I can't help it. One is Jonas Brothers, one is from the finale of Life, and one is from a Band of Brothers vid... which probably represents the headspace I'm in at pretty much all times fairly accurately.

More than Alive, Hayden
Street Light Halos, Jeffrey Foucault
Live to Party, Jonas Brothers

Also, Life got canceled and I'm bummed. :(

Also, I'm bored. I'm copyediting the world's most boring philosophical article and I can't focus at all. Someone come in here and talk to me about how Pam and Ryan should do it, or how Reese and Crews should do it, or how Nick Jonas and Lewis Nixon should do it or something.

1) Every spring I get excited when it's finally warm enough to have the windows open... and then every spring I remember why every fall I'm psyched when we get to shut the windows, because suddenly I can hear everything that's going on in the whole neighborhood. Dear lady who every night at 10 pm for the past three years has called, "Kitty! Kitty!" for fifteen minutes... FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NAME YOUR CAT.

Anyway, the house next door is only about five feet away from my bedroom window, so I almost always have the blinds closed in there. But last weekend it was really hot, so on Saturday night around 1, I was in my room reading with the light on, but I had my window open to get a breeze, and the blinds up so as not to inhibit the breeze. From where the head of my bed is, I couldn't see anything out the window, but it was open. Aaaaaand then I hear this dude moaning, and this lady shushing him.

Yeah, the couple next door was having sex, and shushing each other because it must have been very apparent that MY OPEN WINDOW WAS RIGHT THERE AND I COULD HEAR EVERYTHING. I mean, on the one hand, I appreciate the shushing because I didn't want to hear that, but on the other hand, them being totally AWARE I WAS THERE was almost creepier. Basically, this was my face )

2) We don't have furniture in our living room anymore. The couch went back out the window from whence it came (we videotaped it going out the window this time, so a post about that will be forthcoming -- stay sharp, internet). So basically for the next month before we both move, being in the living room is like CAMPING. By which I mean really uncomfortable -- we put a futon mattress on the floor, it's pretty hilarious.

Anyway. So all that to say that this morning when my roommate and her boyfriend walked in, I was sitting on a futon on the floor in the middle of the living room crosslegged in my pajamas, eating cereal out of a bowl and watching the Disney channel, as you do... when you're eight.

JONAS PREMIERE! And leaked episode 2. )

3) Speaking of the Jonas Brothers, if you want to read primers on them by people who actually know what they're talking about, you need to check these out:

JNS 101: Introduction to Jonases by [info]irishmizzy
JNS 102: Modern Jonas History by [info]agate
JNS 201: Jonas Music Theory by [info]miss_bennie
JNS 315: Jonas Sexual Development by [info]mozarts_friend

4) Apparently I'm also going to do all my super old, super out-dated TV catch-up now. God, why do I never post anymore?

5) Life! )

6) The Office )

7) I really like this Winters/Nixon Band of Brothers vid by [info]kaydeefalls

8) Theories About Nuclear Winters is a Calvin/Susie Calvin & Hobbes fic that is so good it made me cry.

9) [info]moireach introduced me to a drink that consists of creme de cacao, milk, and seltzer, and NO LIE, you guys, it is the best thing I have ever put in my mouth. Every time I drink it IT IS BETTER THAN I REMEMBERED IT BEING, and I overhype it EVEN TO MYSELF. Also, it was invented for oilmen in the old west or something, so even though it tastes like a fizzy chocolate soda, it is actually BADASS. Smith and Curran: you will have no regrets.

Junior Year, Winter, part two (8,337 words) and Junior Year, Winter, part three (15,687 words)
[info]easy_academy, Winters POV, NC-17 (underage, teacher/student, Nick Jonas/Dick Winters)

Here are two songs I have been obsessing over lately, because when it's been raining for weeks and you're writing depressing fic, things happen.

Rescued by Jack's Mannequin (because you might be too old for pop-punk piano ballads, but they're not too old for you)
My Backwards Walk, by Frightened Rabbit

Man, so on Friday night [info]moireach and I had this incredibly bourgetarded evening, wherein we went and saw Brian Dennehy and Dame Eileen Atkins read a bunch of T.S. Eliot poems. And I thought, hey, this'll be pretty cool, I guess, and beforehand, M, as a T.S. Eliot EXPERT, was like, "They better not read it too fast. I have had to delete recordings where they read them too fast." So our expectations weren't too super high but oh my God, you guys, it was like, the best thing I have ever experienced. Like, I can't even describe how good they were, reading everything completely, mind-bogglingly perfectly, so that even though I've read The Wasteland a thousand times, they totally brought out new layers of meaning. They did the VOICES. AUGH I WANT TO GO SEE IT AGAIN. WHY CAN I NOT GO SEE IT AGAIN?

Haha, it was funny, though, because in the program it had a list of past actors who had done poetry readings put on by the same woman doing this one, and Damian Lewis and Helen McCrory were on the list, and I was like, "ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME IF THEY WERE HERE READING ELIOT WHILE I HAVE LIVED IN TOWN I WILL KILL SOMEONE." Haha, which is exactly how I feel about Stephen Colbert, Amy Sedaris and Paul Dinello doing a Wigfield performance in the Somerville Theatre while I totally lived two seconds away here. (God, I still get so mad at my past self when I think about that. WHY DIDN'T YOU CARE SOONER?) Um, but anyway, luckily it turned out DLew's reading was at the British Library, so I can rest easy.

Then we ran straight from that poetry reading to see Germaine Greer, who totally hilariously bitched out the Harvard professor we had just seen introducing the Eliot thing, so that was super weird and kind of awesome. Also she was v. funny and interesting and she called M "that stripey person in the back" during the Q&A which kind of made my life.

And finally, speaking of feminism, the weekend before that, me and M went and saw Sarah Haskins of "Target: Women" at MIT (AWESOME), and so that day we were talking about what shows currently airing on TV consistently pass the Bechdel test (which is, if you are unfamiliar, that there are two female characters who talk to each other about something other than a man). And we honestly came up with almost none.

sitcom specifics )

Anyway, we actually got out a list of all the shows currently airing, but I really could not find very many that have actual female relationships consistently portrayed. But I don't watch that much TV these days, so does anyone know of any? Because it was SUPER DEPRESSING to actually tally it up, guys.

This is maybe the most emblematic thing I have EVER SEEN about the Jonas Brothers: today this picture

was posted to [info]dailyjonas with the comment, "i love them in regular clothes." I have been laughing my ass off all morning. Yes, regular clothes, if Joe is a 7th grade girl in 1992.

P.S. Go vote for Seth Cohen in the Fandom Cage Match, THE VOTING IS SO CLOSE ON THAT ONE I CAN'T EVEN BELIEVE IT AND THE POLL CLOSES REALLY SOON.

P.P.S. [info]easy_academy (Disney Band of Jonas Brothers high school AU) is EATING MY SOUL, you guys, it's like the best thing I've ever been a part of. [info]irishmizzy just posted an outtake of the teacher/student softball game ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

P.P.S. How hard do you ship adorable David Henrie/Selena Gomez? My goodness. Also their twitters are the best things I've ever read, for the record.

Fannish stuff!

The Office )

In other news, I've been watching a lot of the Disney Channel's Wizards of Waverly Place lately... because of reasons. And damn if that isn't a 100% straight-up canonically enjoyable show. I laugh at its jokes all the time! Weirdly, Justine Bateman and Fred Savage have both written for it! I kind of ship Selena Gomez/David Henrie! (Aaaand by kind of, I mean, "totally.") The only real problem with liking Disney tween pop stars (Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, &c.) is that you know they're all cute and normal and fresh-faced now, but in like 3 years they'll be anorexic and addicted to cocaine and possibly pregnant, and it's just super depressing. Like looking at a picture of the Olsen twins when they were 17 and then looking at a picture of them now. WHAT DOES HOLLYWOOD DO TO ITS GIRLS?

It's snowing here again. I need to move somewhere it's not winter for six months of the year (perceived), this is bumming me out.

So I probably shouldn't do this when I have like 30 tabs of fic open to read already, but [info]marguerite_26 did it earlier and it actually sounded like a pretty fun idea. So here it is:

Rec me ANYTHING and I will read it. Any pairing, any fandom, any whatever -- I'll read the first ten recs I get. My only stipulation is that the fics be under 15,000 words. (Oh, and self-pimping doesn't count, obvs.) Otherwise, I like everything well-written, so if you have an awesome fic you think everyone should read, or a small fandom, or whatever, go nuts!
